6 Tourist Sites in Israel with Misleading Names:
#6 - The Alexander River, Emek Hefer
The Alexander River attracts many visitors on the weekends thanks to its central location and the many attractions it offers: Eucalyptus groves, an ancient ruin, a well-maintained park and above all, the many softshell turtles.
While some believe that the river was names after the ancient Jewish king who conquered the area, Alexander Jannaeus, others believe that the truth is far simpler: The river was named after a well-known watermelon salesman from the 19th century, who used the river to export his goods to Egypt and Lebanon.
