A Two Week Air Force Exercise in Germany Comes to an End
This two week training mission was an important milestone in strengthening the strategic-international cooperation between Israel and Germany and their common interests. The objectives of the exercise were fully achieved, while strengthening the operational capability of the Israeli Air Force. The exercise in Germany is the only international exercise that the Air Force is holding this year outside the borders of the State of Israel, due to the CoronaVirus.
The "MAG Days" exercise is an international show that takes place four times a year, as part of the operational preparation of NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation), in which a number of member states participate. This is the first time the Israeli Air Force has participated in the exercise.
As part of the exercise, the Israeli aircraft practiced "shoulder to shoulder" with the participating Air Force pilots, while learning, sharing and mutually adapting to different flying styles. Dozens of aircraft have been used that simulate scenarios of air-to-air battles and air-to-ground battles, dealing with the threat of an advanced TKA (surface-to-air missiles) as well as descriptions of combat in enemy territory. The exercise included flying in unfamiliar areas while applying NATO laws and practicing joint flight descriptions consisting of heterogeneous crews of the various air forces.
In the words of the head of the Air Force, Brigadier General Amir Lazar, "This is a significant deployment in the history of the Israeli Air Force, I think for the German Air Force as well. At the historical-national level, we connect here because of the terrible past of our people in this country and look to another future, a better future, which includes cooperation with the German Air Force. At the Air Force level, we summarise a quality deployment from which we learned a lot. We take the lessons from the exercise in our operational environment.”
