Belgian Bans Kosher Meat Today, The European Union Court of Justice supported a ban on kosher slaughter in Belgium. The court rejected arguments by Jewish groups that Belgium is violating their religious rights. This ruling could leave to a wave of similar rulings, all over Europe. Kosher food laws are based on the Bible and Jewish scriptures, for meat to be Kosher the animal must be slaughtered in a particular way. The purpose of this way to create minimal suffering for the animal. For the meat to be considered kosher, the animal cannot receive any injury prior to the killing. Nowadays, in most countries, stunning the animal is considered the most painless option, which Judaism does not allow. For this reason, kosher slaughter is banned. Some argue that the stunning process is more humane, others say they are equal. Many believe that religious freedoms are more important. What do you think?
