A survey reveals and analyzes the rising nature of antisemitic trends in Europe
Rabbi Shlomo Kovesh, from the European Jewish Association: "It's always fun to come to Paris, but it's quite worrying that there are more and more places that are uncomfortable to walk around in the sight of a religious Jew." And before approaching the results of the survey, he tells a little about anti-Semitism in recent years in Europe:
"Hungary has the third largest Jewish community in Europe numbering about 400,000 Jews. For many years anti-Semitism in Hungary was under the table with no physical manifestations at all, The economy has seen a sharp rise in anti-Semitism and especially with the rise of the anti-Semitic party.
Antisemitic rhetoric has become acceptable.”
In 2012, one of the members of parliament said in his official speech that "the names of all Jews should appear on the list because they pose a security threat." The idea was deemed absurd by most but the EJA felt it was a warning that needed to be listened to.
"That's why we launched the league. We want to understand what's going through people's minds and what's going on in the streets, and find ways to prevent anti-Semitism. We are also working in the legislative sector, and our historic step was to survey anti-Semitic trends among European residents."
