Jordan has claimed that the water crisis is getting worse due to climate change and the rapid growth rate of the population. Last season was one of the busiest in the history of the kingdom and the amount of precipitation reached only 60% of the average amount of precipitation, according to the Ministry of Water.
At the same time as the amount of water is declining, there has been a significant increase in the number of residents in the kingdom, including the arrival of about a million refugees from Syria. According to the data, the amount of water available per capita in Jordan is about 80 cubic meters per year, compared to close to 180 cubic meters about two decades ago. It should be noted that the "poverty line" of water is 500 cubic meters per person per year. According to Jordanian authorities, the availability of sufficient quantities of water at least 2 million people in the kingdom has about 10 million.
It is important however to note that part of the problem stems not only from Jordan's climatic conditions but also water coolers, corruption, and poor water economy planning.
