Israeli Sculptor and Israel Prize Winner Passes Away at 90

The sculptor and artist Danny Karavan passed away today at the age of 90.
Karavan designed, among other things, the monument of the Negev Brigade in Be'er Sheva, the "White Square" in Tel Aviv, and the memorial site for the gypsy Holocaust in Berlin.
Karavan was also known for designing sets for the theater, including the first performances of the Nahal troupe, of which he was one of the founders.
He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Israel Prize for Sculpture in 1977, the UNESCO "Artist of Peace" in 1996, and honorary doctorates from the Hebrew University and the Technion.
