Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs 01.08.2021
Lebanon’s deepening economic crisis could even get deeper due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A director of a central hospital in the country warns that another outbreak of the disease could leave hospitals across the cedar state unable to respond.
Lebanon registered 553,615 infections since the outbreak of Covid-19 last year, including 7,890 deaths.
On top of the mounting crises in the country, Lebanon has a serious shortage of medicine and physicians who have emigrated from the state. In addition, due to worsening infrastructure conditions and major debts, hospitals do not receive steady supplies of electricity.
The physicians’ syndicate said that some 1,300 physicians have exited the country since the economic crisis began in 2019.
