The Houthis are part of a global smuggling network of Yemeni antiquities

In the latest scandal of looted antiquities, an independent Yemeni researcher has confirmed that dozens of antiquities from Yemen are up for sale at a British auction house.

During the years 2018 and 2019, a famous Yemeni Yael sculpture was exhibited in France and Japan. The goat was in the collection of Sheikh Hamad al-Thani, a cousin of the Emir of Qatar, and was allegedly smuggled out of Yemen illegally.

In 2021, Yemeni ambassador to UNESCO, Mohammed Jumia, said that the legitimate Yemeni government is taking the necessary legal steps to get back the looted Yemeni antiquities, including the Yemeni goat, which was exposed in the French media.
