The news site Migrant News quoted a response from a member of the Cologne Refugee Council, Ulrich Prols, on the issue of removing Syrian and Afghan refugees from their homes in the city and bringing Ukrainian refugees in their place, provoking angry reactions from human rights defenders.
Prols confirmed that what is happening at the moment is "transferring some refugees from the main reception centers of the government to make room for the Ukrainians".
The "Office of Social Welfare" in the eastern German city of Chemnitz has forced dozens of refugees from Syria and Afghanistan to vacate their rooms at the Refugee Social Center to receive refugees from Ukraine.
In an article prepared by a German local newspaper under the headline: "Forced evacuation in Kamnitz: Afghans and Syrians must make room for refugees from Ukraine," Afghan refugee Pahim Ahmad, 27, said he had to vacate his room in housing, to Ukrainian refugees.
According to Ulrich Prols, "it is natural that due to the increase in the number of refugees, they will first be absorbed into absorption centers or primary centers, as is the case in Germany."
He stressed that "some of the facilities are now being emptied to make room for these new refugees." He explained that "after determining the names of the refugees who need to leave the primary reception centers, they are immediately transferred to other government centers."
Asked about the validity of the claim that this procedure applies only to Syrian refugees, Prowls stressed that "it is not limited to Syrian refugees only, but applies to all refugees who came from different countries and nations and stayed in these centers for months."
