Today, Tuesday, Iraq revealed that it is examining the mechanisms for establishing a claim for compensation under the Iraqi nuclear reactor "Tammuz", which was bombed by Israel in 1981.

This happened during a meeting held by Iraqi National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji with officials at the Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Commission in Baghdad.

A spokesman for al-Araji said that "the meeting will discuss the issue of compensation for the Iraqi nuclear reactor, which was bombed by Israel in 1981, and the ways and mechanisms by which temptations will be demanded for Iraq."

He added that this demand comes "based on UN Security Council Resolution 487 of 1981, under the legal means and options that guarantee Iraq its rights, in accordance with international laws and conventions."

The statement said that "during the meeting it was confirmed that Iraq's rights are in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the obligations of the International Atomic Energy Agency", stressing that "details of the issue will be presented later to the Prime Minister To achieve them. "

UN Security Council Resolution 487 states that "Iraq has the right to receive compensation for the Israeli attack on the Tammuz nuclear reactor, and that the Security Council strongly condemns the Israeli military attack, and calls on Israel to refrain from carrying out such threatening actions in the future."

On June 7, 1981, the Tammuz reactor, located southeast of Baghdad, was bombed by missiles fired from Israeli fighter jets that penetrated Iraqi airspace, destroying large parts of the nuclear reactor under construction.
