Permission to publish: Mapat's R&D Division in Mashhabat and Rafael have successfully completed a groundbreaking series of experiments in a laser interception system. The system has successfully intercepted unmanned aerial vehicles, shrapnel, rockets and anti-tank missiles in various scenarios.
NEWSRAEL: In short:
- Laser system that can hit multiple targets at the same time
- EASE of use
- Electricity based (inexpensive)
- No limit as to "ammunition"
This is a first-rate breakthrough of integrating laser technology into the defense system of the State of Israel.
Defense Minister Bnei Gantz: "About a month ago we announced a dramatic move, the execution of a huge order for the development and production of a laser defense system and today it is becoming an international achievement. For the first time, a blue and white laser system intercepts targets remotely. Between the defense system and the industries that provide security to citizens."
Mapat's head, Brigadier General (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gould: "The current series of experiments is the fulfillment of a technological vision and is a significant achievement, thanks to the daring, creativity, innovation and professional understanding inherent in the research and development processes. Mapat will continue to lead research, knowledge, processes and technological developments that will form the basis for groundbreaking systems."
The head of R&D at Mapat in the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Yaniv Rotem: The use of a laser is an "equality breaker", and the technology is simple to operate and proves economically viable. We are embarking on a project to complete initial development and equipping for the State of Israel. According to the plan, laser transmitters will be installed within the country within the next decade, and at the same time we will continue to develop advanced capabilities, including the aerial laser."
