Egypt has decided to expel the Emirates' ambassador to Cairo, Hemed Said a-Shamsi. This is an unusual step in light of the good relations between the two countries.

According to Amar Sharbini, the Egyptian ambassador to Qatar the decision on the deportation stems from the fact that al-Shamsi was part of a gang that smuggled antiquities out of Egypt.

The matter came to light after the arrest of an Egyptian businessman and a former MP who were partners in the plot. The antiquities were smuggled to Abu Dhabi by "diplomatic post."

According to Rabin, Egypt is now demanding that these antiquities stolen from ancient tombs be returned to it.
