Israel’s northern residents have been suffering from organized crime for decades, and on Sunday, a business venue in the industrial area of Hatzor HaGlilit was completely burned down in an escalation of violence.

Nissim Gigi, the owner of the damaged business, spoke to radio 103FM and relayed that it was the second time he was hit in this sort of incident.

“This is terrorism, it’s not protection anymore,” Nissim said. “My daughter is seeing this for the second time in her life.”

“There is not one business in the industrial area and in the surroundings that was not shot at, threatened or suffered from arson,” Nissim’s daughter, Rivkah, said.

A police spokeswoman said: “In order to reach solutions it has to be multi-systematic. We are doing a lot in the matter and waging an all-out war. There are crazy forces in the area. To combat this phenomenon, there must be amendments to the law. In the end, anyone can form a security company and eventually the victims know not to mess with him. For a long period, the area was quiet, it’s not every business, and we did not hear about this sort of thing.”
