Following the lessons learned from Operation Guardian of the Wall, and with the aim of strengthening internal security, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense announced the establishment of the "Israel Guard", as part of the Border Police. This will be new volunteer force will be trained to deal with disturbances in emergency scenarios.
The Border Police and the Israeli Guard will be composed of three types of forces - the regular and permanent force of the Border Police, the reserve force that was re-established, and a volunteer force - which currently consists of 8,000 volunteers in the periphery, and will be strengthened by another 1,500 volunteers in the coming year.
In addition, a new volunteer force to be called the "Lead Companies" will be set up, and it will consist of 1,000 reserve fighters by the end of 2022. By 2023, the force is expected to be doubled to 2,000 fighters, and they will be trained to deal with disturbances in emergency scenarios. This force will hold equipment in its home, and will be "first responders".
