Doron Peskin, Middle East Expert 02.10.2021
The new trading week on the Tehran Stock Exchange opens today with a new manager.
Ali Sahrai resigned in shame and was replaced by Muhammad Godrazi after a raid on the stock exchange building in the heart of the Iranian capital revealed equipment for mining digital coins in his basement. According to the authorities, the mining of coins from the stock exchange structure was never reported. Coin mining requires a powerful computer system that consumes large amounts of electricity.
Up to 10% of the world's digital currency is mined in Iran, with authorities claiming it is an unauthorized activity.
