Barak Houry’s Robot

Barak, aged just 12, was run over and died on Yom Kippur. He developed an “automated firefighter” to save lives. We will fulfill his dream

Barak Houry, our son, was run over and killed by a drunk driver on the eve of Yom Kippur. Barak, 12 years old, leaves behind his parents, two brothers, friends and family stunned and shocked at the news.

Barak was a creative and curious child, who loved to create, invent, plan and execute his ideas. For the past year, he worked day and night to develop an "automated firefighter" robot whose purpose is to locate a fire, approach the source of the fire and extinguish it - all without endangering human life or firefighters.

The robot is powered by a solar panel, with sensors to detect heat, gas and light, as well as sensors to detect objects in its path, allowing it to move independently. Barak attached small tanks onto the robot containing flame retardants. In order to operate the robot, he self-taught himself programming and wrote code to control the robot, due to the fact that there is a severe lack of relevant sources of knowledge for children his age on these types of complex topics.

Barak's dream in the last year of his life was to complete the robot, and he devoted all his spare time to it. One of the things that stood in his way was the lack was tools and knowledge in the field of robotics, suited to his age, to allow him to fulfill his ideas.

Now all we have left is to continue his work and fulfill Barak's dream.

  1. Complete the development of the "automated firefighter" robot - which can be used to put out real fires and save lives.
  2. We would like to use the prototype of the robot after it is completed, to allow teens to learn through it and inspire robotics and programming, to create similar projects in the future – resources that were not available to Barak.
  3. Create a source of knowledge suitable for younger ages to promote entrepreneurship and curiosity.

For this to happen, we need NIS 1 million to continue the work of our beloved son Barak.

Any support, contribution, and assistance will help us fulfill his dream.

So sad but so special. He has left an invention that may well be useful in firefighting. May his memory be blessed.
