As Lebanon continues to sink, efforts in the political arena continue to find a new candidate to form the government following the exit of Saad Hariri. The hot name on the name exchange is Najib Mikati. The veteran Sunni politician (66), a native of Tripoli has previously served as prime minister twice for short periods. He has been a Member of Parliament since 2009.
According to his associates, Mikati does not rule out his candidacy but seeks guarantees that the other politicians at the top will not hamper his rule.
The choice of Mikatai is somewhat ironic in light of the difficult situation of most Lebanese. He is a billionaire whose fortune is estimated at $2.7 billion. In the early 1980s, he and his brother set up a communications company that has since become an empire, mainly in the markets of the Middle East and Africa. Gradually, the business was also expanded to the field of prestigious real estate and trade.
