Bennett-Lapid Gov't Faces First Real Challenge: The Budget

The Bennett-Lapid government will face Sunday its first serious political test -- approving a state budget.

Due to Israel’s political instability over the last several years, it hasn’t operated with a budget for the past 3 years.

The weekly government sitting will focus on the Finance Ministry’s budget proposal for 2021-2022 and legislation consisting of all large reforms the government is seeking to advance in the next two years.

However, there are still large gaps between many of the ministries, as the meeting could take the course of a few days. The biggest challenge of this coalition would be green lighting the budget in the Knesset, with a minute majority of 61, which provides a major negotiating force to each lawmaker’s vote.
