The Ashkelon municipality distributed thousands of memorial candles and prayer leaflets to cemetery visitors.
Beginning in the early hours of the morning, the municipality set up stands at the entrances to all the cemeteries in the city where volunteers handed out thousands of memorial candles and prayer leaflets.
The project was born out of consideration for the custom of many residents to go to the graves of their loved ones on Yom Kippur and light a candle to lift their spirits.
The mayor, Tomer Glam: "This morning we placed thousands of memorial candles and prayer leaflets in the cemeteries of the city for the residents who visit them on this holy and significant day to unite with their loved ones who are not with us, ask them for forgiveness and be our righteous advocates, in heaven, on Judgment Day. May we all be granted a good, healthy and long life."
