30 aircrafts,
36 hours of flight,
14,000 Jews,
and one world record set.
This is exactly what happened 30 years ago today, as "Operation Solomon" to raise Ethiopian Jews, was underway.
In exchange for a hefty payment to the Ethiopian ruler and asylum in the United States, the State of Israel succeeded in obtaining approval from the local authorities to airlift thousands of Ethiopian Jews.
For 36 hours, about 30 passenger and cargo planes flew from Addis Ababa Airport and Ben-Gurion Airport, bringing home to Israel 14,325 Ethiopian Jews.
The operation set a world record after 1088 people flew aboard one plane.
1086 passengers boarded the plane, and two more were born during the flight.
Operation Solomon is yet another testament that Israel will never abandon its people, no matter where they are in the world!
