Christopher Brown and Matthew Mahrer are arrested on charges including criminal possession of a weapon. "This was not an idle threat," NYC Mayor Eric Adams says. Social media posts about attacking a synagogue represented a real danger to New York City's Jewish community
According to the criminal complaint against him, Brown made a series of threats on Twitter including, "Gonna ask a Priest if I should become a husband or shoot up a synagogue and die," and then, "This time I'm really gonna do it."
Brown had a large military-style knife, a ski mask, and a swastika arm patch when he was arrested, authorities said.
A bag containing a Glock-style pistol was seized from Mahrer's apartment.
Brown, who was also charged with making a terrorist threat, told police that he runs a white supremacist Twitter group and Mahrer is one of his followers.
