Denmark to defend free speech, pledges to protect teachers from threats, even if they insult Muhammad

Let’s hope this becomes a new trend. It is mind-blowing how any Western country could even consider surrendering its right to freedom of expression, betraying its people’s historic sacrifices for freedom in the process.

Even worse is the prospect of a nation allowing its own subversion in the face of monumental evidence of what the Islamic ideology is all about.

Denmark can begin by rejecting the concept of “Islamophobia,” replacing the term with “anti-Muslim bigotry,” so that is clear that it is not meant to stifle criticism of Islam or jihad terrorism. Like everyone else, Muslims need to learn how to endure offenses to their faith if they choose to live in free societies.

Kudos to Denmark for trying. However, fear and death threats will remain a problem.

How does Denmark intend to protect its citizens who may offend Islam?

“Denmark pledges to protect teachers from threats against free speech,” Euronews, December 17, 2021:

Denmark says it will take measures to protect teachers’ freedom of expression and prevent the risks of “self-censorship”.

The Danish government has stated that teachers should be able to speak about certain subjects, including cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, the Holocaust, women’s rights, and LGBT+ issues.

The ruling Socialist party said it would begin discussions in parliament on “freedom of expression” in January.

“It is unacceptable for violence and threats to create self-censorship and censorship in schools,” said Danish Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup.

“All teachers must feel free and safe in their teaching, and Parliament has an obligation to ensure this,” he added.

Last week, Denmark’s opposition had a majority support its proposal for school teaching on cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The cartoons — which were first published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in 2005 — triggered an unprecedented wave of anti-Danish sentiments in several Muslim countries. Islam strictly forbids any depiction of Mohammed.

The cartoons were also connected to the 2015 terror attack on the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris, which killed 12 people.

Can Denmark better protect its vocal citizens UNLIKE the fatal attacks on 12 French nationals, subsequent to the Charlie Hebdo incident? How will Denmark deal with backlash from muslim countries?
