An agreement was signed today in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba to establish a new private Saudi Jordanian airline. The company is called "Play Aqaba" and is scheduled to fly from the port city near Eilat to Amman as well as to destinations in Arab countries and Europe in what has been defined as "competitive prices". The company's capital is about $20 million.
The company's entrepreneurs believe that its establishment will lead to a boost in tourism traffic to Aqaba. In the first phase, the company will have two aircraft. There are currently three commercial airlines in Jordan - Royal Jordanian National Airline and two private Jordan Airlines and Play Jordan.
Most of the tourists who come to Jordan are from the countries of the region and it seems that the establishment of the new company is intended to help increase the flow of tourists from Europe.
