On March 7, 1988, three Palestinian Arab terrorists from the PLO infiltrated Israel and hijacked a civilian bus taking mostly working mothers to work. Some of the passengers managed to escape, but 11 of the passengers, including ten women and one man, were taken hostage.
The terrorists gave a 30-minute ultimatum: release all the PLO terrorists imprisoned in Israel or they would murder the passengers.
As the 30 minutes were coming to an end, the terrorists shot and murdered three of the hostages – Victor Ram, a 39-year-old father of three, Miriam Ben-Yair, a 46-year-old mother of four, and Rina Shiratzky, a 30-year-old mother of two.
Once the shots rang out, commandos from Israel's elite counter terrorist unit, "Yamam", were given the green light and stormed the bus.
Within a matter of seconds, the Yamam commandos eliminated the three terrorists and rescued the eight remaining hostages.
May the memories of Victor Ram, Miriam Ben-Yair, and Rina Shiratzky be blessed.
