On Wednesday, Saudi border police thwarted an attempt to smuggle 2.8 million amphetamine tablets across the kingdom's eastern borders, and tons of drugs from the south of the country.
The Saudi news agency quoted a Border Police spokesman, Mispir al-Karini, as saying that the person who was supposed to receive the "goods" had been arrested.
In this context, the agency revealed that smuggling attempts of 627 kilograms of cannabis, and 28 tons and 946 kilograms of narcotic substance, were thwarted at one of the border crossings in the south of the kingdom.
Al-Karini explained that the 35 accused of smuggling and receiving these substances, including 27 Saudis, 8 infiltrators, 7 Yemenis and one Ethiopian, were all arrested.
The Saudi Border Guard periodically thwarts attempts to bring drugs into the kingdom.
Last April, Saudi customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Captagon bullets, amounting to more than 5.3 million bullets, which were removed in a shipment of grenades from Lebanon. Following this, Saudi Arabia announced a ban on the import of fruits and vegetables from Lebanon.
About two weeks ago, the Saudi authorities announced the seizure of large quantities of drugs in the Riyadh area, according to the local newspaper "Oaks".
