The Spirit of Liberty
City of David 04.07.2021
“I often wonder whether we do not rest our hopes too much upon constitutions, upon laws, and upon courts. These are false hopes, believe me, these are false hopes. Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women, when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it; no constitution, no law, no court can even do much to help it.” - American Judge Learned Hand
We take for granted the rights we possess. We forget that once upon a time, the sacred value of life, free will, and the desire for peace were revolutionary concepts. Free societies today base their laws, their values off of these fundamental philosophies. These concepts seem so obvious to us now that we’ve forgotten where they came from.
Listen to Ahron Horowitz, Director of Megalim Institute at the City of David, as he takes you back to a time where these concepts were born. To the City of David, where it all began.
Happy Independence Day, America!
