The results of a study published yesterday reveal how dismal the situation of families in Lebanon is.
A study by the American University in Beirut shows that according to food prices as of the first half of July, the minimum cost of food for a family of five is estimated at 3,500,000 Lebanese pounds (about $155) without calculating water, electricity and gas costs.
According to this figure, the minimum family food budget is five times greater than the minimum wage. It should be noted that the minimum wage in Lebanon reaches 675,000 pounds, ie about $450 before the outbreak of the crisis in 2019 and about $30 today.
According to the study, basic food prices rose more than 50% in less than a month. The prices of ten basic food products, such as vegetables, grains, milk, beef and oil, soared by more than 700% within two years.
