After 8 months after the last Iraqi elections, the parties have not been able to form a government.

Today, becuase of that impass, the prominent Shiite cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr, who has a large faction in the Iraqi parliament, has ordered members of his faction, which holds 73 seats in the Iraqi parliament, to submit their resignation letter to the speaker, according to the official Iraqi news agency. 

The resignation is a sacrifice for the homeland, I have paid my debts to God and to the whole nation "and added that the resignation is" an opportunity to save Iraq from the unknown fate".
