US President Joe Biden told Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in a phone call on Friday that he intends to recognize the 1915 massacres and forced deportations of Armenians as genocide, sources familiar with the conversation said. The two leaders spoke for the first time since Biden has stepped into office on January 20, as relations between the two NATO members have deteriorated in the last few years, after Turkey decided to procure Russian air defense systems -- despite Washington’s objection.
