WATCH: A financial record from 2,000 years ago was uncovered on the Pilgrimage Road in the City of David

The inscription was probably a receipt or instruction of payment that a person engaged in commercial activity in Jerusalem during the Second Temple period recorded for himself.

The small stone tablet was engraved with letters and numbers and was discovered in an area considered a bustling commercial area- in the lower city square of the city, which is located alongside the Pilgrimage Road in the City of David.

“To think that, just like today, receipts were also used in the past for commercial purposes, and that such a receipt has reached us, is a rare and gratifying thing that allows a glimpse into the regular and simple life that existed in the holy city of Jerusalem", said Nahshon Szanton and epigraphist Prof. Esther Eshel of Bar Ilan University, the researchers who uncoverd the find.

Other than a receipt what more proof is needed that the Jews own the land
