SRUGIM April 17, 2022: Israel's ambassador to Russia, Zvi Magen, assesses this morning that there is a possibility that there is an attempt in Russia to set fire to the territory in Israel, in order to divert attention from what is happening in Ukraine.
In the shadow of the escalation on the Temple Mount and the harsh announcement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Israeli ambassador in the past claims that Russia may be behind the escalation.
Zvi Magen, who previously served as Israel's ambassador to Russia, claims this morning in an interview with IDF waves that "there may be an attempt in Russia to ignite a crisis here and light a fire in the region in order to divert Europe's attention to what is happening here."
He said: "There is an onslaught here that it is not clear if it will develop into something else."
The remarks come after the Russian Foreign Ministry accused Israel and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid of trying to take advantage of the war in Ukraine to divert attention "from one of the longest-running unresolved conflicts - the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."
