King Abdullah prepares his son as the next King of Jordan

Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah paid his first diplomatic visit to Egypt and met with President Abd al-Fatah al-Sisi. Jordanian officials say King Abdullah has begun his son's practical training as King of Jordan while his half-brother, Prince Hamza, who was heir to the throne, is under house arrest.

The 60-year-old King of Jordan's Abdullah began training his 27th regent son, Hussein bin Abdullah to be his successor as Jordan's next king. And this week he sent him on his first political mission to Egypt where he met with President al-Sisi and also visited the Al-Azhar Religious Institute and the Coptic Church in Cairo.

Jordanian officials estimate that King Abdullah threw his son the regent into the deep water and began his practical training for larger policy missions he intends to impose on him in the future.

King Abdullah chose Egypt as the first stop to educate his son on political missions, Egypt is an important gateway to Arab, regional and international politics.

The battle of succession was decided

King Abdullah and his wife Queen Rania have recently suffered a severe image blow following the worldwide publication of “Pandora documents” which revealed the great wealth of King Abdullah and his family and the huge real estate purchases he made in the US and UK while Jordanians are struggling with a severe economic crisis.

Regent Hussein bin Abdullah's first political mission to Egypt took place while the previous regent, Prince Hamza bin Hussein, King Abdullah II's half-brother, has been under house arrest in Jordan since April.

Prince Hamza, 41, the son of King Hussein and Queen Nur, was officially appointed by King Abdullah II in February 1999 as the heir to the throne of the Hashemite Kingdom and held the post until November 2004, he is full of bitterness and his supporters in Jordan claim he had a promise from his father King Hussein son Talal that he will be the next king of Jordan.

Prince Hamza is very popular on the Jordanian street especially among the Bedouin tribes in southern Jordan, in contrast to the current regent who is the son of Queen Rania, who is of Palestinian descent, and is very hated in Jordan.

However, King Abdullah II ruled and decided that his son, Hussein bin Abdullah, would be the regent and next king of Jordan.

In early April this year, Jordanian authorities uncovered an attempt to tie up "to undermine the stability and security of the kingdom" and arrested 16 suspects, including representatives of the Bedouin tribes, and two other Jordanian officials: Bassem Awadla, former head of the Royal Bureau and Sheriff Hassan Ben-Zeid, a businessman close to Saudi Crown Prince , Both had close ties to the Hashemite monarchy.

According to the authorities, Prince Hamza was also involved in the "conspiracy" against his brother the king, the Jordanian security services followed him for a long time and documented all his actions.

Prince Hamza has been forced to sign a document pledging full allegiance to King Abdullah and his son the heir to the throne and has been placed in solitary confinement and house arrest since his disappearance.

Allegedly, King Abdullah solved the problem within the royal family, but the problem was not solved at all despite the arrest of Prince Hamza, tensions within the Hashemite monarchy continue and also among the Bedouin tribes in southern Jordan loyal to Prince Hamza.

King Abdullah has managed to remove relatively quickly the attempted revolt against him from the media agenda in Jordan but as long as Prince Hamza is under house arrest, winds will not calm down, senior Jordanian officials estimate that Queen Nur will not give up and she will fight for her son's release from detention.
