It seems like every day there’s a new controversy surrounding the trans movement and its proponents. The latest one involves Whoopi Goldberg and her suggestion that the Bible supports parents subjecting their minor children to sex reassignment surgeries.
The conversation stemmed from a trans-identifying Montana legislator, who faced disciplinary action for breaking the rules of decorum in the state House. During a heated exchange, the lawmaker lashed out, accusing Republican colleagues of having “blood on their hands” for opposing transgender surgeries for minors.
The GOP-controlled House then voted to censure the legislator, barring the lawmaker from appearing in the House but allowing votes by remote through the end of the current legislative session.
This didn’t sit well with Whoopi Goldberg, who claimed that Republicans had simply voted to punish the lawmaker because they didn’t like being forced to listen to an opposing point of view.
She then argued that if the GOP believed in parental rights then parents should be able to consent to life-altering and irreversible procedures for their children.
“My God, this is a party that says we believe in parents’ rights,” Goldberg shouted. “You’re telling me that as a parent, I don’t — I’m not smart enough to decide if my child and I need to have gender-affirming — or doctors are not involved.”
It’s an outrageous suggestion, and one that should be met with strong resistance. We as adults should be doing everything we can to protect our children, not subjecting them to dangerous and potentially life-altering treatments.
The truth is, these kinds of treatments are still largely experimental, and there are no long-term studies to prove their safety or effectiveness. The risks associated with these treatments, meanwhile, are well-documented, including permanent infertility, depression, and even suicidal ideation.
