Netanyahu's adviser, Eli Hazan, was elected yesterday to serve as Deputy Chairman of the Israeli Representative in the International Democratic Union.
Eli Vered Hazan, director of the Likud's foreign relations department, was elected deputy chairman of IDU, which is the largest organization of right-wing center-right parties.
The International Democratic Union was founded in 1983 by Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan and Helmut Kohl and was designed to unite all the Conservative parties against the Social Democratic parties that were members of the International Socialist Party. The organization's current chairman is former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ward Hazan was elected his deputy despite Iranian pressure on Arab parties to join the organization to prevent his election.
