Lieberman Hints Will Lower Vegetable Tariffs
Walla! News 13.07.2021
Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman hinted Tuesday that he is willing to confront agriculture lobbyists and lower tariffs on food supplies as part of his plan to reform the Israeli economy.
“I hopped into the supermarket today because I wanted to check the price of avocado,” Lieberman told reporters at a press conference in Jerusalem.
“What is the price? No avocado at all. They tell me there isn’t any and I don’t think that's a reasonable answer at all. Peaches cost 21 shekels per kilo ($2.40 per pound). $8.30 per pound for avocado in the supermarket is not proper. We are weighing and deliberating and want to do everything in agreement. I am the last one who is afraid of confrontation but we should strive for agreements as much as possible.”
