Coronavirus infections are rising in Iran, and so are death tolls from the virus. Despite widespread warnings from experts, officials still insist on producing vaccines locally.
On Friday, July 30, official statistics from the Iranian Ministry of Health showed that both the number of deaths and of people infected with the coronavirus have doubled in the country compared to last month.
Based on official statistics, during the last 24 hours, 270 coronavirus deaths and 24,715 new infections were recorded in the country.

A month ago, the death toll totaled 142 cases, and the number of infected was 12,717.
Medical officials in various Iranian provinces also announced difficult conditions in hospitals, while Iran's Deputy Health Minister confirmed that the number of hospitalizations in Tehran had risen to more than 8,500 cases, and doubts about another 4,000 people had been removed and they were declared infected.
Despite widespread warnings from experts about the need to import vaccines, Iranian officials still insist on producing the vaccine locally, even amid the outbreak of the fifth wave of the virus in the country.

The Iranian Ministry of Health has confirmed that 285 cities in Iran are in the red state of the disease, while 110 cities are in the orange class, and 53 cities are in the yellow class.
Medical experts in the city of Mashhad called on the authorities to impose a lockdown on the city "before it is too late".
