Who were the senior Iranians killed by IDF in Damascus?

Israeli planes, apparently F-35s, bombed the four-story Iranian consulate building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus with several missiles on April 1, leading to its complete destruction and the killing of several senior Quds Force commanders and their aides.

The Reuters news agency has confirmed the death of IRGC Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahadi, commander of operations in the Levant (Syria and Lebanon) in the Quds Force.

In the Revolutionary Guards' public relations announcement, it was explained that the missile attack on the Iranian consulate building claimed the lives of five advisers and other senior officers: Zahedi and Rahimi, that is: Hossein Aman Elahi, Seyed Mehdi Jaladi, the engineer Mohsen Sadakat, Ali Agha Babai, Seyed Ali Salehi Rozbhani.

Among the seven Iranian commanders and advisers who were killed, two names stand out: Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.

Major General Mohammad Reza Zahedi has a long history, a field and security record that shows his high position in the Iranian military leadership hierarchy on both sides of the border.

Brigadier General Zahedi is considered one of the most senior Iranian commanders in the Iran-Iraq war, and his activity during the eight years against Iraq where he commanded a company, a battalion and then a brigade.

He then assumed command of the ground forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards between 2005 and 2008, and while maintaining his previous position, he was entrusted with the command of the security headquarters of the Revolutionary Guards, responsible for the defense and security of the capital Tehran against any popular uprisings.

After that he served as the head of operations staff in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, before he began his journey to Syria, as commander of "Saba Syria" (Quds Force commander in Syria) in 2008-2009 apparently.

After the start of the popular uprising in Syria in 2011, Zahedi, the former senior official responsible for the security of the capital Tehran, and with extensive security experience in repression, deployed special agents against the Syrian rebels in an attempt to suppress the rebellion.

Zahedi is seen as one of the pillars of the regional leadership of the Quds Force, that is, he is a high-ranking commanding officer of the same caliber as Abd al-Rida Shahli (the commander of the Yemeni force in the Quds Force), or of the caliber of Maskarian - the commander of the Iraqi force.

Zahadi's value in the chain of military hierarchy in the Quds Force and his operations outside the borders increased following the assassination of Qassem Soleimani and the mysterious death of his deputy, Muhammad Hejazi, in light of his many years of experience in the field and his complex regional relations.

In addition to Zahedi's assassination, the Iranian announcement was made about the death of "General" Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, who, according to the Mashreq News website, served as deputy coordinator of the Quds Force in Syria and Lebanon, that is, Zahedi's deputy, and this places him as the number 3 Iranian official in the Quds Force.

Some Iranian websites note that Hajizadeh holds the rank of Major General (general), which places him in an organizational or military position higher than his immediate commander, Zahedi himself.

It is not yet known whether Haji Rahimi's rank of Major General was deliberately approved by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards PR so as not to be asked for a higher level of revenge than it is now, or is it just a news coincidence?!

While many photos of Brigadier General Zahedi circulate in the Iranian media, there are only two rare photos of Major General Rahimi, one with Qassem Soleimani, and the other alongside IRGC officer and former Quds Force member in Yemen, Hassan Arlo.

Apparently, Rahimi was one of the close friends of Hassan Arlo, Iran's ambassador to the Houthis, who died under mysterious circumstances in December 2021, and this became known when his daughter Fatima Arlo mourned him on her account on the website X, saying: "We became orphans. Twice."

Arlo and Rahimi may have coordinated their activities in separate areas with the Assad regime, given the connection of the two figures to both the Syrian and Yemeni arenas.

In the same context, other Iranian media confirmed the assassination of Lt. Col. Hossein Aman Allahi, from the city of Islam Shahr, and he was presented as the chief of staff of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards-Syria and Lebanon branch, with few published photos of him.
