Ancient Calendar Uncovered at the City of David!
City of David 06.09.2021
This is a small, rectangular plaque that was used as a calendar! It was made out of bone dating all the way back to the first half of the First Temple Period- from the tenth to the eighth centuries BCE! That means this calendar is more than 2700 years old!
This calendar was uncovered by archeologist Eli Shukron at the Spring House Pool at the City of David.
How was this calendar used you may ask? This calendar has 15 holes, the number of days in half a month, and looks to have been worn. The holes were once used to keep track of the date by moving a piece of wood or a bead from hole to hole as the days went by.
