In the last two weeks alone, we have reported on several incidents where Iranian and Hezbollah troops have entered into the Syria Desert and never came out. Now, it is a unit of the Syrian army. Something very serious is going on with ISIS in their desert enclave.
It seems they are becoming adept at hiding their presence, and coming out of nowhere to attack, and then go back into hiding. We will continue watching these events closely.
Independent "North" Syrian news site reports that Five soldiers of the Syrian government forces were killed in an ISIS attack in the Syrian Desert, the Syrian state-run news agency, SANA reported on Monday.
Yesterday evening, a bus carrying soldiers of the government forces was targeted with a missile attack by a group of ISIS in the Syrian Desert, SANAquoted a military source.
Five soldiers were killed and 20 others were wounded during the attack, according to the government’s news agency.
This attack comes days after the establishment of a center for coordination between the Russian forces and their affiliated formations, and the Iranian factions, in the Syrian Badia, according to media outlets.
Recently, the Syrian Desert has witnessed frequent military operations carried out by ISIS against Syrian government forces, including ambushes, planting bombs and launching surprise attacks, which caused losses among the Iranian-backed factions.
On December 23, 2021, Five members of the National Defense Forces (NDF) of the Syrian government forces were killed in an attack by ISIS in the southern desert of Homs, central Syria.
Iranian-backed factions and government forces have controlled large areas of Deir ez-Zor since the expulsion of ISIS militants in late 2017.
Iran is seeking to tighten control over large areas of the Syrian Desert through military factions loyal to it and to spread Shiism among the population, attracting them through many offers and exploiting the economic and livelihood conditions that Syria is going through.
