The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday evening that Moscow supports Washington in the fight against terrorism, the network reports to Arabia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry's statement came after US President Joe Biden announced the assassination of ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashmi in an American commando operation north of Idlib.
Biden said in a televised speech from the White House on Thursday: "The U.S. has removed a major terrorist threat in the world, when this operation was carried out by a U.S. special forces unit in the town of Atma in the northwestern region of Idlib, and has been the biggest failure for the terrorist organization since its killing. "Former leader Abu Bakr al - Baghdadi."
On October 27, 2019, a similar American operation took place in the Idlib area as well.
Earlier today, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that his country had hit ISIS hard by actually eliminating the organization's leader.
"We carried out the operation against the ISIS leader in a way that would prevent civilian casualties," said US Secretary of Defense Austin.
