Turkey refused Egypt's request to hand over the leaders of the wanted Muslim Brotherhood, according to the British "Middle East Eye" website, relying on Egyptian intelligence sources.

Sources said the Turkish delegation had informed Egypt that Ankara could not extradite the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood wanted to Egypt, adding that most of these leaders are now legally residing in Turkey.

The talks in Cairo, led by the deputy foreign ministers, were the latest in a series of rapprochement moves between the two countries to improve tense relations between them.

Turkish officials did not comment on the content of the talks. However, Turkish Vice President Poet Octai said Ankara is ready to improve relations with all countries in the region, not just Egypt. Egypt has so far responded cautiously to Turkish initiatives.

On Thursday evening, Egypt and Turkey concluded another round of talks in Cairo, in the first open negotiations between the two countries, after a two-year break that lasted two days, led by Egyptian Deputy Foreign Minister Hamdi Sanad Luza and his Turkish counterpart Ambassador Sadat Onal.
A joint statement said: "The discussions were open and in-depth, touching on bilateral issues, as well as a number of regional issues, particularly the situation in Libya, Syria and Iraq, and the need to achieve peace and security in the eastern Mediterranean." The statement did not clarify any details on the issues discussed by both parties.

Relations between Egypt and Turkey have been strained since the Egyptian army, led by then-military commander Abd al-Fatah al-Sisi, ousted the democratically elected president, Muhammad Morsi, in 2013. Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood member, was a close ally. Of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
