New Sa'ar 6-class corvettes 'INS Atzmaut' and 'INS Nitzachon' handed over to Israeli Navy

All four Sa'ar 6-class corvettes ordered by Israel from Germany's Thyssenkrupp have now been delivered

Germany's Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems handed over two more Sa'ar 6-class corvettes, the INS Atzmaut and the INS Nitzachon, to the Israeli Navy on Tuesday. It marked the completion of the delivery of all four Sa'ar 6-class corvettes ordered by the Navy. Vice Admiral Eli Sharvit, Commander of the Navy, arrived from Israel for the naming and handover ceremony.

Thyssenkrupp built the ships in a joint venture with German Naval Yards Kiel. The contract for the supply of four corvettes was signed in May 2015. After the design phase, the construction phase began in February 2018. Just 15 months later, in May 2019, the first ship, which would later be named the INS Magen, was undocked, and in November 2020 it was handed over to the Israeli Navy. The second ship, the INS Oz, was handed over in May of this year. The two new ships will be equipped with Israeli radar and weapon systems after their arrival at their home port in Israel.
