They all had dual nationality; no one was rendered stateless. In any case, all Western nations should follow this example, but most of them are too afraid of appearing “Islamophobic” even to take basic measures to protect their own people.

The Brussels Court of Appeal has just stripped Belgian nationality by default of 13 people convicted of terrorism, La Libre Belgique reported on Monday. The texts were published today in the Belgian Official Gazette.

The forfeiture of nationality is a supervised measure which can only concern dual nationals. It is excluded to create stateless persons, recalls the newspaper.

Twelve of the 13 nationality disqualifications concern men who had joined the jihadist ranks in Syria between the end of December 2012 and December 2014. The 13th had joined Afghanistan in 2007. They were removed from the municipal registers.

These 13 dual nationals, Belgian-Moroccans for the vast majority, have all been convicted by default in Belgium for terrorism.
