Egyptian President al-Sisi needs the Biden administration

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is working to strengthen ties with Israel and is trying to influence its relations with the Palestinians in order to promote regional stability. The Egyptian president also sees this move as a way to get closer to the Biden administration and soften the US administration's sharp criticism of Egypt for violating human rights.

The US administration provides Egypt with $1.3 billion a year in security assistance but has said lately that it would reconsider that aid, imposing restrictions on some of the aid and pledging $170 million on condition that Egypt stop lawsuits against human rights and social organizations and drop 16 indictments.
