As someone who has been closely following social networks in Saudi Arabia in recent years, I know that the issue of the kingdom's financial aid to Arab countries and Palestinians is "harassing" the Saudis. They feel that Saudi Arabia is sending billions of dollars to needy countries but are "ungrateful".
It now appears that Regent Ben Salman has decided to put things in order.
According to Arab reports, Ben Salman's message during his recent visit to Jordan and Egypt was that the era of "free meals," that is, the transfer of financial aid to these countries for free, had ended. From now on, the aid will be less in the form of a blind money transfer, but more on the basis of investments that will yield a return.
According to Saudi sources, the blind transfer of funds that has been practiced so far has missed the mark when a large portion of the funds have been used for corruption purposes. It was further claimed that in the past a country like Jordan received considerable assistance because it was in fact the "connecting link" to Israel but today of course there are open channels of dialogue between Riyadh and Jerusalem.
