Yom Kippur marks the end of the Days of Awe, or Days of Repentance, that begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. During the 10-day period, a person is thought to be able to influence God’s plans for the coming year. Yom Kippur in Israel is the one day when normal life across Israel stops. All businesses close, including all restaurants and places of leisure. All transportation stops. Even Ben Gurion Airport, Israel’s major airport, stops functioning. There are virtually no cars on the road, therefore biking on Yom Kippur has become something of a tradition
