ISAR - Israeli Search and Rescue Units

ISAR is the umbrella non-profit organization of all 11 search and rescue units in Israel which together have over 1,000 active volunteers, each one ready 24/7 to leave whatever he or she may be doing at the time to join their team in helping other, many time putting themselves in possibly dangerous situations.

Israel is a country of diverse landscapes which a very large number of Israeli and tourists hike through. The chances for accidents during these hikes are also high. Children, youngsters and adults all lose their ways, fall, get caught by sudden storms and are in need of specialized search and rescue units that are trained, well-equipped, and ready in the proximity of the accident to be able to aid in times of need.

Israel is blessed in that throughout the country, volunteers have gathered in various groups to help out.

“Our sole goal is saving lives”

The rescue units in Israel are deployed from the north to the south. The units are geographical divided teams of volunteers, trained to locate, rescue and provide medical treatment and evacuation of travelers, civilians, tourists and soldiers who have lost their way in difficult terrain conditions, are at risk or have been injured in disasters / natural hazards etc.

An Average of 1400 rescue events per year rescue events per year

The rescue units carry out an average of 100 rescue events per year (each unit). The well-known events in which the units took part include: the fire in The Carmel Mountain (2010), the tourist bus disaster near Eilat (2008) and the disaster in the Sea of Galilee during the Passover holiday.
