Traffic in the Suez Canal was Resumed after a Container Ship that ran Aground was Towed

Traffic in the Suez Canal returned to normal after coming to a halt for about two hours, Thursday, after a container ran aground at the 54th kilometer.

A source in the Suez Canal Authority told a reporter for the American television network Alhora that the authority's tugboats had managed to move a container ship that ran aground, and the cruise traffic was resumed.

The container ship ran aground on the 54th kilometer shipping lane for about two hours, blocking the movement of four ships coming from Port Said to southern Suez.

The authority pushed a number of its naval tug units that quickly rescued the stranded ship and sailing traffic resumed.

Last March, the container ship "Ever Given" ran aground and stopped across the Suez Canal and blocked the traffic altogether, during its journey from China to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

Non-compliance with the ship's sailing rules disrupted traffic in the canal in both directions, and more than 400 ships got stuck on both sides of the canal, which is responsible for more than 10 percent of world trade traffic.

The voyage resumed a few days later after the success of the rescue mission of the 400-meter-long, 59-meter-wide ship carrying 224,000 tons of goods, with the help of international experts.
