The Wagner Group has said that it has hired people from Afghanistan to fight the war in Ukraine.
The Russian private military group’s founder Yevgeny Prigozhin said that he has created an “Afghan unit” that is fighting in Ukraine. However, he added that the Afghan fighters who are working with his group are “small in numbers”.
The Wagner Group chief said that the Afghan fighters also have an artillery unit. This comes after Prigozhin said that his group plans to recruit 30,000 new fighters for the war. Wagner Group's latest recruitment drive comes amid reports of heavy losses the group suffered in its fight against Ukraine in Bakhmut.
The West and Ukraine has estimated that the Russian private military group has lost around 30,000 soldiers in the war.
