Report: US State Department falls victim to cyberattack

The identity of the alleged hackers is not known at this stage. In a statement to Fox News, the State Department neither confirmed nor denied that the incident occurred

The U.S. State Department was the victim of a major cyberattack during the past few weeks, according to a report by Fox News on Saturday. The extent of the breach and the timing of its discovery are not currently known.  

Quoting an anonymous source, the report claimed that the U.S. Cyber Command issued notifications of a serious breach. Although it is not clear whether the operations of the State Department were affected by the attack, Fox News reported that the department's evacuation of thousands of Americans and Afghans from Kabul, Afghanistan amid the withdrawal of U.S. troops was not affected.  

The identity of the alleged hackers remains unknown at this stage. In a statement to Fox News, the State Department neither confirmed nor denied that the incident occurred.
